Dan said he would never put a song on Spotify.
Payday was written in 2014 after Dan played a gig and didn’t get paid. It became part of his album I Cried Bullets, and won a national songwriting award in the Protest category.
Twelve years on, at 11:11 on 11 August 2026, Dan has put it on streaming platforms; his first song to appear there. Not because he’s changed his mind, but because the world around music has. AI, streaming, ownership, the value of music, and the increasingly strange question of who actually gets paid for making it.

THE LONG WAY ‘ROUND
Dan’s played to one year olds and 80 year olds, bikers and billionaires, wedding guests and funeral mourners, in pubs, paddocks, penthouses, major festival stages, football stadiums and once, almost, at a nudist festival (but that’s another story). He’s sung for the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, on 60ft sailing boats, from the back of trucks in cane fields and everywhere in between.
